Metzger Band FAQ

1. Can my child join band if he/she has never been in band?

Yes, your child is more than welcome to join the Metzger Band! Prior to being placed in a particular band class, his/her performance/prerequisite skills will be assessed by Mr. Robertson & Mr. Aynes. Previous musical experience is preferred, but not required.

2. What is the band uniform?

Our formal band uniform consists of a black Metzger Band polo ($25 purchased through myschoolbucks.com), black pants, black socks, and black shoes. This uniform will be worn at all formal performances and contests. The informal uniform consists of the Metzger Band polo and blue jeans. Uniforms are to be provided by the parent.

3. Do I need to bring my instrument on the first day of school? 

No, you do not need your instrument on the first day of school. During the first week back, we will be assigning band lockers and reviewing music theory. Once you have a band locker, then you will be able to bring your instrument and necessary supplies to school. The school provides locks for the band lockers.

4. How many bands are there in the program?

We have a total of three bands: Beginning Band, Symphonic Band, and Honors Band. Band placement for the school year is based on auditions, past/recent musical performance, and achievement. The beginning band classes are structured by like instruments.

5. Are there any rehearsals after school?

Honors Band students will have a mandatory after school sectional once week 3:45 – 5:00 pm. Beginning Band students will have two after school rehearsals in December and May in preparation for the concerts.

7. What instruments are available from the school?

There is a $60 Judson ISD Instrument Usage Fee for school provided instruments. School provided instruments are limited and are on a first come-first serve basis.

8. Can my child be in Athletics and Band?

YES! Currently, we have many athletes in the Metzger Band. The coaches and band directors work together to accommodate students and their practice/rehearsal schedules.

9. How many performances do you have during the school year?

We perform at various school and community events throughout the school year. In the fall, Honors/Symphonic Bands perform at a Wagner varsity football game, Fall Concert, Holiday Concert. In the spring we perform at the JISD Pre-UIL Clinic, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation, Music Festivals, and our Spring Awards Concert. The Beginning Band will perform in the Holiday Concert in December and Spring Awards Concert in May.
